In a heartwarming initiative, the Coonamble Riverside Holiday Park hosted an overnight camp for the Clontarf Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that assists in the education and employment of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.

The camp brought together 100 Year 7 students from various Clontarf Foundation Academies and 15 adults to teach them vital life skills and strengthen their sense of community.

The Clontarf Foundation is dedicated to improving the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, empowering them to participate more meaningfully in society.

Sue Sealby, the Venue Manager at Coonamble Riverside Holiday Park, said, “We were excited to host the Clontarf Foundation and see the students so engaged and enthusiastic. It’s inspiring to witness these young men developing skills that will serve them for a lifetime. Their energy and respect for each other and the environment were truly commendable. We enjoyed hosting them and showcasing what Coonamble has to offer”.

Students from Brewarrina Central School, Canobolas Rural Technology High School (Orange), Coonamble High School, Dubbo College Delroy and South Campuses, Narromine High School and Wellington High School took part in the Clontarf Year 7 Induction Camp. The camp aimed to instill the foundation’s core values of respect, community and improvement.

This mission was evident throughout the camp as students engaged in a variety of leadership and induction activities, a touch football carnival, swimming activities at the Coonamble pool and essential camp skills like swag rolling.

Students embraced the three core Clontarf values:

  1. Please and thank you always and everywhere
  2. Leave everything better than we found it
  3. Look out for our fellow Clontarf academy members

The group enjoyed a night under the stars with a large screen in the park to stream the footy match, followed by a cozy night in their swags. The feedback from the event has been overwhelmingly positive. To learn more about the Clontarf Foundation visit their website.
